penyebab gempa di sebelah barat wilayah NAD adalah penunjaman lempeng Indo-Australia ke bawah Eurasia. Walau pun energinya besar, yaitu 7,2 SR, pusat gempatnya berada di bawah kedalaman 30 kilometer.
